Herstory Made

Today history has been made with the election of Kamala D. Harris as Vice President of the United States. In the year we commemorate the centennial of the 19th Amendment, there is no tribute more fitting than having the first woman and the first Black and Asian American woman to be elected into our nation’s highest office.

As we celebrate Kamala Harris, we also honor the Black women who led the way over 100 years ago and the Black women voters and organizers of today who made progress possible. Black women organized and undeniably helped to drive and steer voters’ consciousness toward the joyful hope and humanitarian reset necessary for the “soul of our nation.” There is power in our sisterhood, and the country now knows the power of our voice.

The legacy of women like Fannie Lou Hamer and Shirley Chisholm stand guard in the power of this historic moment, no longer in the shadows of American history. Kamala, our Divine Nine sister, we honor you as you have made true herstory.
